In the year 2005, I was appointed by
the Tamilnadu Cricket Association( TNCA) as the yoga coach of the Tamilnadu men
team, the South Zone Cricket academy and for the Indian Women Cricket Academy.
For the next seven years I was invited to introduce yoga to cricketers from the
under 13 to men level.
Initially I was apprehensive about the
way in which these cream of youngsters would receive yoga. When Satyananda Yoga
was introduced to them in a systematic way, they not only received it very
well, many of them have become regular practitioners of Yoga!
In 2005 the Indian Women Cricket team,
captained by Anu and the coach of the team was Sudha fromer Indian skipper,
attended a month long training camp in Sri Ramachandra University campus. I was
asked to give them yoga classes.
Mithali Raj and several other girls
who are in the forefront today were young blood and were having great
potential, yet needed to develop self confidence. Satyananda Yoga practices
were introduced to the team in a systematic manner according to the needs of
sports persons.
I take this opportunity to appreciate
the Tamilnadu Cricket Association (TNCA) and its organizers for thoughtfully
providing the yogic inputs to the cricketing fraternity.
